Falling into place...
It's been a really busy week for me. I've been spending more hours than I woud like in office. Required though as the countdown draws nearer to when VSU kicks in. I managed to get certain things I wanted approved through 2 Council meetings without difficulty. It required a lot of work to get to this point. A lot of debate and arguments as well. But it worked out in the end.
It's interesting how the principle of democracy works. When we want to have good discussions and a sort of watchdog to monitor decisions, we encourage a diversity of representation from various groups. When we want to get things done on the other hand, we want to ensure that we have representation mainly from our own group to avoid wasting time. Selective democracy in a way. I personally like having debates about issues and arguing over them to ensure that I can be comfortable with the issues once they are resolved. However when it comes to making urgent decisions quickly, I can't afford to spend weeks arguing over the issue. Call me a dictator but it's the bureaucracy that renders many decision-making bodies impotent. Sometimes things just need to be done in a dictatorial manner to be most effective.
Regardless, now that we've gotten the important things over and done with we can focus on actually getting a referendum going to accept the changes. It's going to be difficult rallying students to vote but it is possible to get the numbers. Just requires effort and commitment from everyone involved. Things should settle down after that.
Haven't had a real chance to enjoy my holidays yet. It's just been flat-out work. Hope I'll get some chances to relax soon. Got to get away from the hustle and bustle of work and the city. I'll be in Perth in July but I'll need to take some time off in the meantime as well. Even if it's for only a day.
Celebrated a friend's birthday last night. The usual: dinner, dessert and then drinks. I was half-dead throughout the night from fatigue. Fridays are sort of like a pit-stop. However at the same time the fatigue built up throughout the week catches up to me on Fridays. Oh well...
I'm snowed under with work but recently there have been opportunities knocking on my door for more work. One in particular is something I would love to take-on. An opportunity that in any other circumstance I would jump at and take. But certain things have made me reconsider. Not with regards to the job itself but also the climate and the people I would deal with in the job. We'll see though. In case I change my mind.
