The neverending story...
I'm pretty bad with my resolutions. If you are a frequent visitor to my blog, you will no doubt recall many previous posts promising to constantly update my blog even when I'm busy. Obviously, it didn't take long for that to fall through. I don't know. I just lose the passion to blog. It's sort of like taking photos. I'm not the type that likes to make sure I take many photos wherever I go; rather I prefer to enjoy the moments and only take a few photos. Blogging for me is like that. Whenever I experience certain things; I prefer to savour them rather than think about blogging it. True, blogging will allow me to remember details about the experience in future. Yet, I don't normally look that far. To me, if I can't remember the experience, it probably wasn't that great anyway.
So what's been happening? I finished my last examination as an undergraduate student last Saturday. I find it interesting that I didn't have an overwhelming sense of freedom after the paper. While others are enjoying their holidays, I am preparing my Permanent Residency application, converting my Driver's Licence and preparing for my move over to Mount Gambier. Life is very much like a neverending story. When you are studying, you look forward to enjoying yourself after you graduate. Yet once you graduate, you need to prepare for working life. Then it's retirement and eventually death. Funny, eh? You put all your effort in your younger years to make enough money to enjoy life. However the only time you get to really enjoy yourself without taking leave etc. is once you retire. By then, your body probably wouldn't be able to cope with too much enjoyment.
Whatever it is; it's over. No more classes. No more hanging out with friends for a coffee between breaks. No more gossip about new couples. Student life is more or less over. Sure, I can come back to do a postgraduate (indeed, it is more likely than not that I WILL come back) but by then, I would be juggling studies with work and classmates would be colleagues more than friends. The "care-free" days are over.
I can't say I'm not looking forward to working life. It's going to be an exciting new phase in life. As it is, I'm in the process of looking for a used car to purchase. Once I save enough money I'll be able to afford a new one. It's not easy getting something you want that matches your price range. Oh well, it's going to take some effort.
I guess the thing I'll miss most of all from student life is being able to hang out with so many friends. Working life will most likely limit me to a handful of colleagues around my age; the rest most likely being older. Then again, I'll need to make sure I still keep in touch with old friends. It's an interesting journey ahead. Let's just hope the ride is smooth...
